Green Building Construction |
| At Buracker Construction LLC we are always working to build an energy efficient home. In considering things that save you money “down the road” you will likely have a higher investment up front. Many of the alternative energy items cost a bit more to start, but the more people start incorporating them into their home plans, the more the prices will start to drop on the materials. For example, wind turbines used to be over $50,000 and have now dropped to $12,000 to $15,000 depending on the system. There are currently tax credits available from the federal government for many of the alternative energy items that are a great incentive to “go green”. Some simple things that don’t cost a lot more up front, but are just good choices are: |
| Framing - Our standard framing construction is 2” x 6” exterior walls which we feel gives you a more sturdy construction and allows for additional insulation in exterior walls. A standard 2” x 4” exterior wall allows for R-13 insulation which meets the current building code. However, when you bump up to 2” x 6” framing you can use R-19 insulation in your exterior walls for a greater insulation and energy savings factor. |
Energy Star Windows and Appliances - If you select Energy Star rated Windows and Appliances, the additional cost is marginal, but the energy savings will add up year after year. |
